San Luis Obispo Spring Events 2016
San Luis Obispo, CA – San Luis Obispo has an abundance of great culinary, cultural and outdoor events happening this spring. With so many events to choose from there is definitely something for everyone, no matter what your interests.
2016 SLO International Film Festival – March 15-March 20, 2016; slofilmfest.org
The SLO Film Fest is excited to welcome five-time Golden Globe winner Ann-Margret to San Luis Obispo to receive the 22nd Annual King Vidor Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. The opening night of the Festival German Pianist/Composer, Markus Horn, will accompany the silent film “Nosferatu,” based on Bram Stoker’s story of “Dracula,” at Cal Poly’s Spanos Theatre. Children’s Day in the Plaza with Passport to the Arts – April 9, 2016; sloartscouncil.org
This event is held every year to celebrate April as National Month of the Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is the 38th Annual Children’s Day in the Plaza; this year partnering with Passport to the Arts. This event will bring children and families to the Mission Plaza where there will be engagement booths provided by community organizations that will have hands-on visual and literary and performing arts activities.
Cal Poly’s Open House – April 14-16, 2016; calpoly.edu
Showcasing the campus to admitted and current students, alumni and the San Luis Obispo community, this three-day event is the hard work of a committee of student volunteers in collaboration with the community, student clubs, faculty and staff. This year is the 23rd annual Open House; more information is on the website.
SLO Marathon – April 29-May 1, 2016; slomarathon.com
This is an event for any type of runner, even if it is your first event ever. There are five different races being offered including a marathon, half marathon, 5K, kids quarter mile and a fun run. The event will take place close to the beautiful Madonna Inn, where there will be many different booths and fun events set up. Flavor of SLO – April 30, 2016; flavorofslo.com
Taking place at the historic Jack House and Gardens in downtown San Luis Obispo, enjoy an afternoon of sampling some of the best food, wine and beer you will find on the Central Coast. Each year, this event raises thousands of dollars to benefit United Way of San Luis Obispo County.
SLO Jazz Festival – May 14, 2016; slojazzfest.org
This is the 3rd Annual SLO Jazz Festival taking place at the Mission de Tolosa in downtown San Luis Obispo. SLO Jazz Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to “Celebrate Jazz and nurture the human spirit, one event at a time.” Tickets are currently available for purchase.
Annual Concerts- Central Coast Children’s Choir – centralcoastchildrenschoir.org
Choose one of these days in May to see a performance put on by the wonderful Children’s Choir here in San Luis Obispo. With 100 boys and girls ages 6-17 divided into five different choruses, the Central Coast Children’s Choir is highly-respected and is a great asset in SLO County.
