Baseball & Beers at Baggett
Longing to watch America’s favorite pastime this Spring? There’s no need to travel north or south to get your baseball fix. Head on over to Cal Poly’s Baggett Stadium and enjoy high-level ball, good eats, one beautiful ballpark and a fun-filled atmosphere.
Earlier this season, I drove over to Baggett Stadium, located on the north end of Cal Poly’s campus to support my fellow Mustangs as they took the field in a battle against UC Berkeley. Although all sections of the stadium offer great views of both the field and San Luis Obispo’s breathtaking landscapes, I was lucky enough to acquire a pair of Krukow’s Klubhouse tickets and share this experience with my mom.
If you don’t already know, Krukow’s Klubhouse is Cal Poly baseball’s exclusive membership club, providing truly the best seats in the house. Mike Krukow, a former pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants, got his start as a Cal Poly Mustang and is now a color commentator for the Giants. This season long membership sells for $850, including two passes for each home game and a close-up lot parking pass.
The perks don’t stop there! Additional bonuses in holding these prized Krukow’s Klubhouse tickets include unlimited amounts of the following items until the middle of the seventh inning:
- Beer for those 21 & over
- Hotdogs & Peanuts – Baseball game must-haves!
- San Luis Obispo Taco Works tortilla chips – A local favorite
- Soda & Water
After entering the stadium’s main entrance, we were directed to head to the third baseline, trading our tickets for a lanyard credential. This exchange allows staff to keep track of who is entering and exiting the area, eliminating the possibility of tickets being handed off throughout the game, and maintaining the Klub’s exclusivity.
With a Blue Moon and hotdog in hand, my mom and I found a great spot on the designated third base side overlooking the field, Cal Poly’s campus, Bishop Peak and beyond. Most of the games are scheduled in the evening, so the chances of catching an epic San Luis Obispo sunset are pretty high!
After a beer or two and nine innings of high-quality play, my mom and I returned our lanyards to the staff. Passing by the Ozzie Smith statue, honoring the legendary back-flipping Cardinals shortstop and former Mustang, we both agreed we’d have to make it to another game. Having an older brother who played college ball, we’ve watched a lot of games over the years but rank Cal Poly’s Baggett Stadium as one of the best venues we’ve ever been to!
Although the Cal Poly Mustangs are nearing the end of their Division 1 Season, there are still a few games remaining against UC Irvine this week and UC Davis at the end of May. Check out the Mustang’s baseball schedule and enjoy a game of college ball.
